Christian Movie Connect Episode 86 – Regina McCrary

Actress, Writer and Singer, Regina McCrary, grew up in a household of singers.  Her father, the Reverend Samuel McCrary was a founding member/lead tenor for the great gospel quartet, the Fairfield Four. Regina performs and records with her three sisters Ann, Freda and Deborah as the McCrary Sisters. They have just released their first CD entitled, “Our Journey.” Over her distinguished career, Regina has had the privilege of recording and touring with such great artists as Al Jarreau, Aretha Franklin, Barbara Mandrell, BeBe & CeCe Winans, Boyz II Men, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Kirk Franklin, Vince Gill, Wynona Judd, Yolanda Adams and many, many more. As a stage actress, Regina has appeared in two of Tyler Perry’s stage plays, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” and “Madea’s Family Reunion.” In 2010, she released her book, “A Mother’s Prayer,” a collection of heartfelt stories from mothers that have lost their children. In the spring of 2013, Regina appeared in Nashville for the premier of her new film, “Inspiration Pop 2929.”

In this interview, McCrary talks with CMC host, Cheryl Ariaz Wicker, about the various ways in which God has used her gifts to bless others through the entertainment industry.

Arkansas native, Jackie Stewart, spent most of his professional career as a teacher and has appeared in some twenty-five motion pictures and television shows over the years. He has also done numerous television commercials. On stage, Jackie has played in “The Cotton Patch Gospel,” “Smoke on the Mountain,” and “To Kill a Mockingbird” at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre in Little Rock.  In 2000, he was invited to the White House for a special screening of “The Height of the Sky,” in which he played the lead. Jackie’s other film credits include “Slingblade,” “A Time to Kill,” “The Ernest Green Story,” and “Frank and Jesse.” His latest film, “Inspiration Pop 2929” premiered in Nashville in the spring of 2013.

Actor, Producer, Director and Writer, Britt George, has been working in the film and television industry for nearly 20 years. After attending the New Actors Workshop Conservatory in New York City, Britt went on to play roles in films such as “For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story” opposite Andy Garcia, and the Indie thriller “Deadly Species”. His other credits include “Trim,” co-starring Academy Award nominee Bruce Dern, “The Code Conspiracy,” “Dragnet,” “Boston Legal”, “Las Vegas” and “Burning Hollywood.” Britt’s latest film, “Inspiration Pop 2929”, premiered in Nashville in the spring of 2013.

Orlando native, Whitney Goin, graduated from Florida State University and taught Drama, Speech and Debate at her former high school. With a desire of using her love for the arts to make a difference in people’s lives, Whitney performed in Central Florida theatres for many years before opening her own theatre company, The Vine. She loves working on projects that uphold family values and allow her to “live lives” through film and television that impact her growth and offer hope to audiences. Whitney’s recent films include “The Spectacular Now,” “Broken,” “A Measure of Faith” and “Inspiration Pop 2929” which premiered in Nashville in the spring of 2013.

Grammy and Academy of Country Music Award-winning singer-songwriter, Larry Gatlin, is best known as part of the legendary country music group, The Gatlin Brothers, along with brothers Steve and Rudy. By age seven, Larry and his brothers began singing at family and church events. Eventually, Larry’s career brought him to Nashville, the capitol of country music, where he worked with such artists as Dottie West, Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Presley, Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees and more. Larry’s music has been featured in such films and as “Next of Kin”, “Stroker Ace” and “Gospel Road: A Story of Jesus”. Since 2010, he has contributed to Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network as a political and social commentator. In his latest project, Larry appeared in the film, “Inspiration Pop 2929” which premiered in Nashville in the spring of 2013.

Christian Movie Connect Episode 82 – Christy Sutherland

Texas native and award-winning singer-songwriter, ChristySutherland, has spent more than a decade in Nashville in the country music scene. During that time, she garnered two major-label country recording contracts, a staff writing position for one of the biggest publishing companies on Music Row, and multiple appearances on the Grand Ole Opry. Great family ties also follow Christy as the daughter-in-law of country music legend, Barbara Mandrell. In 2004, her song “Freedom”, made the Hot Country Songs charts and in 2012, “Greater Still”, won the AMG Heritage Award for song of the year. For her latest project, Christy appeared in the film, “Inspiration Pop 2929” which premiered in Nashville in the spring of 2013.

In this interview, Sutherland talks with CMC host, Cheryl Ariaz Wicker, about her role in the movie, how she prepared for it, as well as other characters and the relationships that she developed with her co-stars.

Christian Movie Connect Episode 81 – Torry Martin

In today’s episode, Christian writer, comedian, and actor, Torry Martin reports from the 2013 Gideon Media Arts Conference and Film Festival as a field correspondent for ChristianMovieConnect.com.

Torry has starred in, and written, several short films as well as in some exciting projects coming out this year and in 2014. He also created the character Wooton Bassett in Focus on the Family’s Adventures in Odyssey.

 In this interview, set in the new CMC Studio with HD and Skype capabilities, we have Christian Movie Connect host, Cheryl Ariaz Wicker, talking to Torry from this year’s Gideon Media Arts Conference & Film Festival. Just a bit of a disclaimer, there may be a few skips in the video from Torry’s feed as he is on the hotel’s shared internet. But even with minor technical difficulties, Torry has done a wonderful job reporting from the conference.

He talks about several screenings of films such as God’s Country, Veil of Tears, return to to Hiding Place, and A Cry for Justice which is doing its world premiere right at Gideon.  He also updated CMC on his own upcoming projects like Taken by Grace and My Name is Paul.

Grammy and Dove Award-winning singer, author and actor, Jason Crabb, is best known as the longtime powerhouse lead vocalist for The Crabb Family. Personally mentored by Bill Gaither, Jason started touring at age 14 eventually performing at Carnegie Hall, the Grand Ole Opry and appearing regularly on the Gaither Homecoming Series. He was also honored to sing for Billy Graham’s farewell crusade in New York City. Even with his phenomenal success, Jason admits that his roots will always be in Gospel music. As an author, Jason has released the first of his ten-book children’s series entitled, “One God, One You.” Recently, Jason had his acting debut in the feature film, “Inspiration Pop 2929” which premiered in Nashville in the spring of 2013.

Award winning actress, Erin Cottrell, is best known for her portrayal as Missie LaHaye in the Michael Landon Jr. series, “Love Comes Softly”. As the daughter of a choreographer, Erin has performed in such great musicals as “Annie”, “The Sound of Music” and “The Nutcracker Ballet”. Erin has also appeared in a variety TV shows and films including “All My Children”, “Guiding Light”, “Ed”, “ER”, “Cold Case”, “CSI: NY”, “Faith of My Fathers”, and “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde” with Reese Witherspoon. Her newest film, “The Identical” is set for theatrical release in the fall of 2013.

Joseph Simpkins is the Founder and President of Living Water Films, a production company  with the vision to produce “edgy” films that provide spiritual nourishment and healing for the nations as well as high quality films that reach beyond the walls of the church. A professionally trained actor from San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre, Joseph studied with former Broadway director and actor from the famous Actors Studio, Bill Silverman. He has also worked in the special mechanical effects area on such TV shows as “Dawson’s Creek”, “Nash Bridges” and “The X-Files”. With a career spanning 20 years in the entertainment industry, Joseph is beyond passionate in his calling to illustrate stories through the performing arts, including his films, “Fatal Flaw”, “The Choice” and “Adrenaline” which is due for release in 2014.

Christian Movie Connect Episode 75 – Chip Rosetti

Writer, director and producer, Chip Rossetti, is the founder of Christian Theatrical Releasing (CTR), an organization with the mission to get Christian, faith-based and family films shown in movie theaters around the U.S. as 90% of Christian films go straight to DVD or digital distribution. Chip started making documentaries in 2000 and in 2011, he made his first feature film, “Fathers” which was released in 2012 by Bridgestone Multimedia Group. His upcoming films, “The Accidental Missionary”, is set for release by Echo Light Studios in the spring of 2013 and “The Things We Leave Behind” will be released by Bridgestone Multimedia Group in the summer of 2013.
